The Electromagnetic Spectrum

Click on the video below for a brief introduction of the electromagnetic spectrum.

What is the electromagnetic spectrum?

The electromagnetic spectrum is a way to classify different energies of light. This is very useful as at different energies light has different uses. A higher energy corresponds to a shorter wavelength (distance between the peaks of the waves).

Light at the lower energy end of the spectrum (longer wavelengths) can be used for cooking and communication whereas light at the higher end (shorter wavelengths) is more suited to imaging bones and destroying harmful cells.
